Wreck Beach Great Ocean Walk Walk91

Hopetoun Falls

This wonderful waterfall is well worth visiting but there are approx 200 steps to the falls, so keep that in mind before you visit. However, there is a handrail, and on the walk down it’s pleasant to stop and look at the rainforest around you. (Please note however that the steps are a little slippery depending on the weather). It takes about 15 to 20 minutes, return trip, and the falls is approx 30 meters high, being fed by the crystal clear waters of the Aire River.

Beauchamp Falls

This magnificent waterfall is surrounded by beautiful rainforest. There is a bit of a walk into it though (approx 3KM return walk) so allow approx1.5 hours for this visit. There are also a lot of steps too, but they are more spread out than Hopetoun Falls. However, you will be rewarded with two areas to view the falls, one at the top of the falls and another at the foot of the falls.

Triplet Falls

This is a great option to see three waterfalls in one visit. You will also walk past the site of Knott’s Mill and see remnants of an old tree-felling site in the area. The walk into the falls is approximately 40 minutes, but only a 20-minute walk back on a different path to the car park. But, it is a steep, quite hard walk with steps, so please keep this in mind 🙂

Little Aire Falls

This is a pleasant 6km return walk leaving from the same carpark as Triplet Falls. Be prepared for some steep sections, approx 360 steps, and walking over a suspended viewing platform with a see-through grate base – see below a link for a video. (Vertigo suffers think twice!). Walk past tall Mountain Ash on this well-maintained track, and over streams (using bridges). You can only see the falls at a distance and the size of the falls will depend on rainfall – hence better viewing in the colder wet months.

Sabine Falls

This 3.9-km return trail near Mount Sabine is a challenging route and you can only see the Falls in the distance when you arrive. However, the walk is beautiful and it is a popular trail for bird spotting. Tip: bring binoculars with you if you have them!
